The Foundation course is intended to equip you to work with confidence using your listening skills and knowledge. It provides a structure, foundation and appropriate knowledge for the role of a listening helper and refreshes and develops the academic skills necessary for postgraduate study. The course aims to provide a supportive environment where listening skills development is underpinned by a process of developing self-awareness, self and other feedback and reflection skills and ethical sensitivity, which are necessary for the use of such knowledge and skills when acting in a listening helper role. You will deepen understanding of self and other, in socio-political context, and raise your awareness of resources available to assist people experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties. Preparation for work-based learning is also included.
This module is an introduction to the relevance of personal awareness to the use of counselling skills
This module gives an introduction to a Framework to understand the process of using counselling skills. You will learn about the context and skills involved in being a listening helper and take part in supported practice sessions to identify and enhance each skill that contributes to the forming of a helping relationship.
